Travel (trouble) bag
The question was brought up at the last SFBA zoom meeting, "What should I take along with me if I am driving to the convention?" This also applies to a long trip. We were fortunate to have some road warriors at the meeting who gave some tips.
Here are a few essentials and other things you may "need".
Did we miss anything? Let us know in the comments. This will also make a great article for the Spyder Web. If you are reading from another chapter, please feel free to share the info with your members!
~ CORSA member directory. As a member of CORSA you can purchase the booklet or access the member directory from your phone. One of the many perks of being a CORSA member. Sign up or renew here: https://www.corvair.org/index.php/membership/join-or-renew-here
~ AAA or Roadside policy. If you own a classic car, you should absolutely have tow service as a rider on your policy. Out of pocket towing is $$$
~ Spare fanbelt. This should go without saying. https://ssl.corvair.com/user-cgi/search.cgi?part=C5790
~ Buy this tool to save you time on that fanbelt change. https://ssl.corvair.com/user-cgi/search.cgi?part=C3773
~ Christy and Paul mentioned having a spare mechanical fuel pump. A great suggestion if you already have one. Current replacement fuel pumps are a real gamble with most of them being leaky (and expensive) junk. Clarks is doing R&D with an aftermarket solution with the finished product availability TBD. We will post the Electric pump conversion checklist into the Tech discussion.
~ A backup battery pack for an emergency jump, cell phone re-charge and handy flashlight. Every car should have one of these, just in case. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DWSYYZR/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
~ A quart of oil. We know better than to make oil suggestions. Just keep an extra quart of what you already use.
~ Fire extinguisher https://elementfire.com
~ Tool bag. For those of you who like doing your own roadside repairs, we will include this list in the tech session.
Keep the list going. Lets limit it to what a "non-mechanic" would carry. We will create a shade tree list in the tech session.
