Corvair (SFBA) General Discussion

The question was brought up at the last SFBA zoom meeting, "What should I take along with me if I am driving to the convention?" This also applies to a long trip. We were fortunate to have some road warriors at the meeting who gave some tips.

Here are a few essentials and other things you may "need".

I usually joke to my wife that I am going out for cigarettes which is code for corvair ride.

But, even a shortest ride can turn long and be a regular part of driving the corvair.

Yesterday, a trip to the post office became a pleasant remembering experience for a woman who snapped photos of my car. She shared memories of her grandmother and her corvair.

A side trip to the old Dumbarton Bridge (now a fishing pier) a motorcycling tourer from GA approached to tell me about his first car. His 62 corvair leaked oil, smeared moisture on window defrost and stank, BUT he loved and missed it.

Maybe next time, I should tell my wife, "Going out for cigarettes and draft memories."

I am going to be traveling for a few months and wondered what you recommend I do to keep the car in shape. I can ask someone to drive it once a week but can I just take out the battery and will that work for 60 days so when I return, my '64 Monza will start again? thanks
